Satellite LNB's for Freesat, Sky TV and European Satellite
The LNB is the piece of electronics that sits on the arm protruding from the front of the satellite dish. This is the most important part of the satellite system. It is this device that receives the very weak satellite signals that have been reflected into its feed horn by the satellite dish reflector.
The LNB does three jobs. Firstly it amplifies these weak microwave signals; it then converts them to a much lower frequency which enables the signal to pass down normal satellite aerial cable to your satellite receiver. Around half of the satellite signals are broadcast in the Vertical Plain and the other half in the Horizontal plain. The reason for this is double up the number TV channels that can be transmitted from any given satellite.
The LNB has to be able to select which plain (or polarisation as it is known) any particular channel is broadcasting on. So as you can see the LNB is expected to do many things.
The satellites that bring us TV and Radio channels here on earth are located some 23,000 miles above the equator. Their transmitting antennas beam their signals down to earth to cover a specific area. This is known as the satellite footprint. It is the 'field' strength within this footprint that determines how strong the signal is and governs what size of satellite dish you need to receive a certain satellite.
For instance the satellites that bring us the freesat signals (and Sky TV) has a very tight foot print over the UK thereby maximizing the field strength, so that small dish antennas can be used here in the UK.
We stock a good range of high quality LNB's to cover most applications. These are available with one output to connect to one satellite receiver, twin output, four outputs (known as the Quad LNB) to eight outputs to connect to a combination of satellite receivers such as Standard definition, High definition and twin tuner satellite receivers such as freesat+ and SkyHD etc.
